 New Member FAQ

Do I need musical training or experience to join SCSCC?
Absolutely not!  There are no auditions required. All you need is a love of music and singing.

What ages may join?
You must be at least 14 years of age or a freshman in high school to join our group.
Do I need to be a resident of St. Clair Shores to join?
No, residency in St. Clair Shores is not necessary. Many of our members reside in neighboring communities such as, Harper Woods, Roseville, Harrison Township, etc.
Are there fees required to join?
Yes, we have membership dues.  Our year consists of two concert seasons,  one holiday and one spring.  Membership dues are $45 per season or $80 per year. You would also need to purchase a costume which would be a one time cost. Please contact us to find out the current cost of costumes. Spring season has a t-shirt purchase.
Will I need to memorize the music?
Most music is NOT memorized. We have concert folders for our music. Certain groups, Women's Ensemble, Mixed Ensemble, and Show Choir require memorization. Show Choir also requires learning some choreography as well.
What if I need help learning the music?
Everyone needs help sometimes! All parts are played separately for each section. If you need additional help you can ask a neighbor or our director after rehearsal. Some members bring a small recorder to help them learn the music. Music is also available on this website for at home practice.

What kinds of music do you sing?
We have sung all genres of music in the past. We love variety! We do have a large collection of music and add some new selections each year. Some of our past performances have included, Broadway selections, Music of Disney, Hollywood Movies and TV, Classical, and Motown to name a few.

I spend several weeks away during the year, and will have to miss some rehearsals. Can I still join?
Yes! You can get the music before you leave so that you can rehearse on your own.

I am unable to stand for great lengths of time. May I sit on a chair during performances?

Absolutely you may sit! We have several members that are unable to stand and we accommodate them with chairs during the performances.
